1918 - 2004
Born in Vancouver, B.C., he studied at the Vancouver School of Art and the Ghent Academy, Belgium. A portrait and figure painter, he has been compared with Van Eyck and Brueghel The Elder by Charles Scott and with 19th Century Impressionists in his treatment of colour. A competent draughtsman his paintings reflect sincerity – his recent work contains less detail. He travelled in Europe on an Emily Carr Scholarship, 1948-9, and taught at the Vancouver School of Art.
